STEAM where the A is not an afterthought.

At Creative Innovators Project, science, technology, engineering, art, and math aren't separate subjects — they're tools students use to solve one problem. A single team solution might need a load-bearing structure, a working mechanism, a painted set, a script, and an original song.

Why STEAM, and why this way

Instead of asking “when am I ever going to use this?”, CIP students discover the answer themselves. Odyssey of the Mind long-term problems are deliberately interdisciplinary: a technical problem still requires a performance; a performance problem still requires an engineered set, costume, or device. Kids who came for the building learn to write and perform. Kids who came for the art learn to engineer a hinge that survives eight minutes on stage.

What students make

In a season, teams have built cardboard vehicles that carry a passenger, balsa structures that hold weight, mechanical creatures, painted backdrops, original costumes, and a script with a beginning, middle, and end — then performed the whole thing for judges. Alongside it, weekly spontaneous problems train fast, flexible, creative thinking.

Build First. AI Second.™

Technology is part of CIP — computers, an interactive display, and design tools through the Creative Innovator Lab — but students encounter the problem first. They ask questions, imagine, build, test, and develop their own thinking; then technology can help them go farther. We want young people who know how to use powerful tools without handing over the thinking that belongs to them.

Divisions and logistics

Four divisions from kindergarten through high school. Weekly practices August–May at The Village at Vistancia Clubhouse in North Peoria. $500 per student per season with monthly payments, family and Primary pricing, scholarships, and Arizona ESA accepted.

Interdisciplinary by design

Every long-term problem needs engineering and art, structure and story. Kids stop sorting themselves into 'STEM kid' or 'art kid'.

Performance builds confidence

Presenting an original solution to judges is a real audience — and one of the fastest confidence builders we know.

Original work only

Coaches and parents may not design, build, or write for the team. Every idea on stage belongs to the students.

FAQ

Parents ask

What's the difference between STEM and STEAM at CIP?

STEM is the technical core; STEAM adds art, design, storytelling, and performance. At CIP they're inseparable — the same team engineers the device and paints the set.

My child loves art and theater but not math. Will they fit?

Absolutely. Teams need set designers, costume makers, scriptwriters, and performers as much as builders — and most kids surprise themselves by picking up the technical side along the way.

Do you offer one-time STEAM workshops or camps?

Our core program is a season-long team. We also bring hands-on creativity challenges to community events and school STEAM nights around Peoria — see the calendar.

Are there STEAM kits I can do at home?

Yes — our student-designed Potion Kits and Elf Innovator Kits are in the store, and we post try-at-home challenges on the homepage and social media.
